I was called as a primary teacher for a couple of years and I had a great time with the children I taught over those years. One Sunday I was teaching the lesson on Alma 32 with a neighbor who was standing in for my regular partner. I had decided that as part of the lesson we would try to write our own song about the teachings in the chapter.
My partner noted that the well known primary song that sings" Faith is like a little seed: If planted it will grow." is actually not what is taught in Alma 32. In that chapter it teaches, "Now, we will compare the word unto a seed. Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted inyour heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief, that ye will resist the Spirit of the Lord, behold, it will begin to swell within your breasts;" That is how the song "The Word of God is a Seed" started.
I had brought a violin to class and together we worked out a simple melody. My partner worked with the kids to get words to go with the melody and by the time we went to sharing time we had a song ready. We were excited with our creation and got to perform our song for the rest of the primary. That was not to be the end of it. We shared the song with the pianist who then wrote an accompiament to go with our simple song. Our class got to sing this song as part of the primary program.
I have attached a copy of this song for anyone who would like to see it.
